MEGAT EXECUTIVE BOARD

our mission

  1. Mission:
    1. The Maine Educators of the Gifted and Talented (MEGAT) has been organized to further the common good of gifted education in the State of Maine.  This mission will be achieved by meeting the following goals:
      1. Supporting the development of programs for gifted and talented youth in Maine
        1. by sponsoring conferences and other educational opportunities in order to address issues of gifted education in the State of Maine
        2. by holding membership in the National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC)
      2. Disseminating news and information to professionals interested in gifted and talented youth
        1. by publishing and distributing newsletters, including scholarly articles addressing current issues and practices related to gifted education both in Maine and nationwide
        2. by holding regular regional meetings for members in order to provide mutual support and the exchange of information relative to gifted child education on the national, state, and regional levels
        3. by maintaining and updating a website and social media
      3. Fostering the professional growth of educators in order to serve the needs of gifted and talented youth
        1. by sponsoring conferences and workshops annually to share the ideas and professional contributions of state and national leaders in gifted education
        2. by working cooperatively and collaboratively with the State Department, university system, and other appropriate Organizations to
          1. provide statewide training
          2. exchange ideas and perspectives on issues and events of mutual concern
        3. by other means, as deemed necessary and appropriate, i.e. publications, providing mentors to educators, etc.
      4. Recognizing outstanding accomplishments in the area of giftedness
        1. by sponsoring awards for students, professionals, and others who contribute to the field
        2. by nominating students, professionals, and others for awards and recognition
